Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Maybe last year was the best year of your life or like for many of us, it was a year full of challenges. Regardless, it is a great time to be intentional about setting goals and taking control of what you can control. Setting resolutions is not enough, being intentional about how we establish goals is key. Things will not happen on their own, we have to be intentional.
Here’s your 5 tips to that can help you achieve your goals this year:
Establish SMART goals:
Your goals have to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. It is not enough to say “I want to be healthy”. You have to establish “I want to be healthy by losing 10 pounds”. To read more about how to set SMART goals here. Make sure these goals are relevant to what you want, not want someone else wants.
Make a plan:
Once you establish your SMART goals, you have to write them down and make a plan. What are the weekly and daily habits that are going to help you achieve your goals? Who will hold you accountable? How are you going to remind yourself to stay on track?
Celebrate the wins:
Once you get the ball rolling in establishing your goals and creating new habits, it’s time to celebrate your wins. Celebrate the small wins along the way to keep you motivated. Whether you have to reward yourself weekly or monthly, find an external incentive to celebrate your accomplishments. Caution: Make sure that whatever you use to celebrate your wins aligns with your goals.
Get help:
If you need extra accountability (most of us do), seek help from mentors, friends or in therapy. There is power in being community and even the strongest, most motivated person needs help. Getting help is not a sign of weakness rather a vulnerable acknowledgement of your human condition. It is beautiful to see what we can achieve in community.
Believe in yourself:
Your mindset, along with helpful habits, are the key to accomplishing your goals. Believe in yourself and your ability to reach your goals. Get rid of the negative beliefs about yourself and replace them with positive self-talk.
